This parts does wear out and stop functioning.
The opener may still operate if the brake solenoid goes bad but the braking system
of the opener will cease to function and that can present a safety issue and also cause damage to the opener
and or the garage door or gate. It is imperative the brake solenoid is functional.
Some older heavy duty openers use brake pads on a drum type system, check for ware
of the brake pads as well. Touch up with fine sand paper if needed, that can bring the pads back to life.
