All hinges and rollers need regular lubrication and maintenance.
Rollers are the single most important component of a smooth and easy operating truck or trailer door. Worn rollers should be replaced and a regular maintainace routine should be adhered to. Lubrication of the roller and track is very important. Using the correct lubrication is important as well, never use grease.
Here is the lubrication we use on all truck, trailer and all over head, swinging and sliding doors:
When lubricating rollers and tracks, consider the following:
Not only is it important that the roller wheel spins freely, it is equally important that the roller shaft moves freely back and forth and also spins in the hinge. You want the roller floating in the hinge, back and forth and also freely turning within the roller. Proper and consistent lubrication will insure this. A good rule of thumb is twice a year maintenance. Always replace worn rollers, check for wear by moving the roller wheel back and forth on the roller shaft, there should be very little play. Remember, the bearings in these rollers will wear; the bearing chase will wear, although proper and regular lubrication and adjustment will slow this wear, eventually all rollers will show sign of wear and will need to be replaced. Rollers are wear items on all truck, trailer and garage doors. Check all end hinges for wear and also to insure that they are mounted firmly to the door, over time they will work loose and this sill cause the door to work hard and also wear the rollers and hinges. If the hinges are riveted to the door, drill them out and replace with the proper fasteners, step bolts, you can fin those here, TRUCK DOOR BOLTS Maintenance of truck and trailer doors is the same as for garage doors and should be done twice a year at a minimum.
